Dr A N Safaya was chosen by Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba to serve as the first Director of the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Puttaparthi, when Swami gifted this pioneering institution to humanity in November 1991. Ten years later, when Bhagawan established its sister institution in Whitefield, Bengaluru, He entrusted Dr Safaya with guiding it through its formative years as well. Before moving to Puttaparthi, Dr Safaya had served as Medical Superintendent of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
