Deha + Atma (body + Spirit) is Dehatma. Jiva + Atma (Life + Spirit) is Jivatma. Param + Atma (the Supreme + Self) is Paramatma. Although Deha (the body), Jiva (the individual), and Param (the Supreme) are different terms, Atma (Spirit) is common and is equally present in all three. The Atma is all-pervading. That is termed Sat (Being). It may be likened to sugar, which retains its sweetness in whatever way it may be used, be it coffee, tea, milk, payasam or anything. The name coffee, tea and so on changes, but the sweetness of the sugar is the same. Chit (Awareness) is subject to change and movement. When you mix sugar in water, you have neither sugar nor water, but only syrup. When Sat, which represents the Divine and Chit, which represents the Life Principle, come together, you have Ananda (Bliss). This is Sat-chit-ananda. It is like an ocean in which the myriad creatures come into existence and disappear like the waves. Their names and forms vary, but essentially they are the same as the ocean. They are all living beings which have emerged from Sat-chit-ananda. - Divine Discourse Jun 26, 1994
