About this track
Service should not be performed for name and fame. It should not be taken up for establishing one’s superiority. Nor to achieve some ulterior selfish objective. Such service cannot be considered service at all. These are merely activities of self-interest. Not recognising the sacredness and purifying power of service, people hesitate to embark on social service. It is a mistake to imagine that one is promoting the well-being of the nation by one’s service. One should realise that one is bettering oneself by rendering service. Life without service should be considered a life of darkness. One’s life, name and fame, all the comforts one enjoys, are derived from society. One finds fulfilment in society. That being the case, if one does not serve society, whom else can one serve? If we do not serve this Nature that inspires us to analyse and enquire, and thereby teaches us the essence of the Divine Principle, whom else do we serve? We express our gratitude to the person who picks up a handkerchief that we have dropped. Should we not express our gratitude to this Nature and society that has provided us with all these resources and conveniences?
