Without the sanction of the Lord, man cannot achieve anything in the world. The divine is the basis for everything. Man, however, is filled with the conceit that he is the one who is doing everything. This pride is the cause of his failure. It is the cause of his restlessness, frustration and disappointment. Man today is basing his life on reliance on Nature, forgetting God. This is a grievous mistake. It is essential to realise that there is a basis, a foundation and that this whole world is based on it. Recognising this truth, one must conduct oneself. If you go to a cinema, you have a screen that is steady and unchanging, which may be compared to God, who is real and eternal. On this screen, many forms come and go. Man only sees and experiences the forms that appear and disappear, but fails to recognise the screen. The moving pictures have the screen as their basis. Without the screen, we will not be able to see these pictures. What understanding can one have if one sees only the forms and pictures? In the same manner, man today is trying to lead life by forgetting God and placing all his faith only in Nature. This is a grave mistake. We have to take refuge in God who is the Adhara (the basis) and then experience Nature which is the Adheya (the based upon).
